Had the Mini today, which liberated my plans, dropping the wife at work, and having the world as my oyster.
So what did I do? Yes, a supermarket shop in Yarmouth.
However, I was pleasantly surprised at a leaflet I spotted at the checkout today in Sainsbury’s. Amongst the banking, insurance, iTunes cards and Tic Tacs, there was a publication called Coeliac Disease.
I must add I didn’t learn anything from reading it but as an awareness raising exercise, both in its content and store position, it felt laudable.
Sainsbury’s deserve credit for this and their commitment to allergy awareness in terms of wide stock provision. I swear Tesco is shrinking its Free From range, Asda are committed and have a massive stock, Waitrose and Morrison’s less so. I still have reservations though about all supermarkets’ free from stock which seems to assume all us coeliacs want is bourbons, custard creams, pasta and cakes. It would be nice to see labelling stretch to other less processed products.
Having said that, I was a bit remiss myself today. I microwaved a Juvela roll, draped it in President butter, wrapped it in foil and went to Sainsbury’s after calling for market chips in Yarmouth again. New potatoes cooked in beef dripping, with salt shaken over and then added to a gluten free roll was exquisite.
I know, it’s sad, but that’s how I roll.
Beautiful chip butty. And well done J Sainsbury’s.
